Mystery Solved

That 1857 Mystery?. Well, this evening I walked up around the Parliament buildings and I saw them. It is clear that the main thing being celebrated is 175 years of Ottawa being Canada’s Capital city. They’ve got an image of the clocktower and a very young Queen Victoria with her signing pen out signing the accord/bill/whatever it took to make Ottawa into the capital.

But other banners were more confusing. Others have some Coureurs de Bois and soldiers on them and some funny designs … and they say 1857-2007. Rideau Canal. Could it be? Why yes it is!!! 175 years since the Rideau Canal was first opened.

I figured all that out, just from reading the various banners. Go me.

Brilliant! You’d had me stretching my brain quite a bit yesterday trying to think of imperial events that would have clued me in!

BTW can you email me your address? I have it on my computer, but my computer isn’t working right now and I have a post card for you!

And unfortunately, we won’t be able to meet in Misr because I’m going to be home through mid-February before returning to the ME so that I can meet my baby niece/nephew.
