Do you know the history of Helvetica? Do you care? Does font strike up passion in you? Well, it does to the people in this documentary film, which I saw last night. I thought it dragged a bit in the middle, but otherwise, it was well worth watching.
Oh, and for those who remember my main observation about the movie My architect, you will be amused to hear that typeface masters all wear small thin-rimmed glasses… unless you are female or British… it seems from the people in Helvetica.
Perhaps the coolest part of Helvetica was realising that people in it actually design typefaces that I commonly use! Woah, I’d never really thought about it before.
P.S. This blog is brought to you in Helvetica. Of Course.
Now that spring summer seems to be here, I feel the urge to move, to get up, to go out, to express myself. I want to ride a bike, read by the canal, travel to exotic locales, hike, swim in lakes, and dance the Tango. A friend just sent me news of Tango outside of Ottawa: festivals in Montréal and Toronto, Otros Aires concert in Toronto (:-() … le sigh. And then I remembered that summer in Ottawa means Sunday tango on Parliament Hill… so I search the web… and it isn’t starting until the end of May. And, worse, I can’t go to TO next weekend on such short notice for Otros Aires. Why can’t they come to Ottawa?!?!
I returned from Istanbul the other day. There wasn’t much free time, and I was only there for a few days, but I did make time to see the Blue Mosque and enjoy the last half of an unseasonably hot spring day on my arrival.
I liked the way they have a Tulip Festival, too. Earlier than Ottawa’s by almost 2 months, but really nice nonetheless.
