As you can read about HERE and HERE, the first OLPC meet up in Ottawa is happening this Tue evening. Come one! Come all!
(I’ll blog about it after it’s done…)

Over on World Citizen, I read about the Virtual Water Poster. Very cool. I want one.

I saw the movie Definitely, Maybe last night. I know, I know… not exactly cutting edge art film but I had to admit at the end that it was feel-good sappy in a good way. Maybe I am simply become a big sap?!

British Columbia’s Finance Minister delivered her budget in a pair of green Fluevogs (from the tea pot collection, nonetheless!)

Believe it or not my OLPC arrived yesterday evening. It’s even more anti-climatic than my PhD defence. I’m even feeling disappointment that I didn’t get a chance to cancel the order and teach them a lesson or two about customer service.
Anyway. It is here. Now all I have to do is find time to open the box and use it and get with the Ottawa users.

I saw the movie Juno; last night. It was quite good. I think some people will think it is a feel good movie, but I found it a bit sad and a little dark. Still, I think it is worth seeing if you get a chance.

Well, I’ve put it off as long as possible. It’s all due in by Friday if I don’t want to spend any more tuition money or Monday as an absolute last day… but that will cost me another month’s tuition. Bah. I’m stoopid for having dragged my heels, but work has been crazy busy and other excuses. As Jason-ji said to me the other night, “It’s hard letting go of it.”
The options are:
a) Go through a very bureaucratic process to upload it to the internet and mail the forms to the Registrar’s Office by Friday. But the Bureaucratic process is so long, that it might not happen before Friday…
b) Print out a copy on a fancy printer, sign the forms, and send the whole thing off to TO by Friday (aka mail it tomorrow morning). This will lead to more traditional microfilming, which is, I guess, OK.
Since Option A takes so many days, and is something I should have sorted out last week if I was going to do it, I suppose I’m left with option b by default. OK, I can live with that.

I have 3 months from date of purchase to make a claim against OLPC according to my credit card company, whether i have paid the bill or not. If I don’t receive it, or if it is damaged etc., my credit card company promises to do something about it so I can get my $$ back. So, I have paid the bill. It actually may be a good thing that I ordered one late. 3 months will take me one month past the window for delivery in Canada. OLPC auto responses claim it is in the warehouse, so now I am just waiting… to see what’s next.

I made a yummy soup yesterday… not from a recipe. I just made it up to go with some leftovers I had lying around. It is really good, so I thought I’d share it with you:
You need:
1 onion chopped
2 large or 4 small garlic cloves crushed
1 medium potato peeled and cut into chunks
a bit of extra virgin olive oil
c. 12oz of tinned diced tomatoes
1.25L of veggie stock
1.5 teaspoons of dried basil
0.5 teaspoon of dried thyme
c. 2/3rd cup of cooked or tinned chick peas
c. 1/2 cup of cooked brown rice
salt & pepper to taste.
How:
Heat the oil in a big soup pot and add the onion and garlic. Sauté until translucent. Add the potato, diced tomatoes, veggie stock, basil, and thyme. Simmer until the potato is cooked. Blend the mixture using a hand blender (or blender or food processor). Add the chick peas and brown rice. Heat through. Salt and pepper to taste.
