* Ordered an OLPC just before the deadline for that.
* Arranged transport to get to and from defense (that would be a ride down and the train back).
Now all I need is a presentation, a mock defense, a haircut, and the right outfit.

Vya
There was the usual family moratorium on gifts this year, but it didn’t stop some people from buying us little gifts. G got me some Vya. It’s not like any vermouth I’ve ever had! And yes, I am very retro. I drink vermouth.

Some good, with some not-so-good inbetween
So, I read them. I mean, I read my external examiner’s comments.
She begins with, “This is a fascinating and readable thesis, showing originality and skill in the treatment of the topic.”
She ends with, “. I recommend the thesis be accepted. ”
The inbetween part… is the critique. I’d quote all of it but it’s not really appropriate. Nor is it all that “bad”. Still, I have some serious thinking to do in order to work out responses. Especially the paragraph on theory. I really hate theory — or the interpretation of theory. The problem there, rather like the whole field of English Literature IMHO, is that “they” spend a lot of time telling you HOW to interpret theory & if you don’t agree with the mainstream interpretation you are labelled “wrong”, when in fact no one really knows what the author(s) intended.
Anyway, I’m off to spend 5 days with family. And then nearly a week with diss…

Spicy Almonds
Spicy Almonds
1 lb whole , unsalted almonds
1 egg white
2T curry powder
2T sugar
1/2 t salt
1T unsalted butter – use your becel. I reduced the amt of salt to 1/2
t,
and the becel which is salted works fine
Beat egg white lightly with a fork ad beat in curry powder, sugar, and
salt. Stir in nus and coat well with egg white mixture.
Butter a cookie sheet ih the becel and spread over the nuts in a single layer.
Bake in a preheated oven at 375 F for 15 – 20 minutes. Stir nuts every
5 minutes. Nuts should be browned and coating should be almost dry,
Spread nuts on paper towers and cool completely before eating.

White Out.
I wanted a little snow for xmas since the Californians are coming to Canada this year and they want a traditional white christmas. So, they are getting one… As if the last two snowstorms I posted weren’t enough, today Mother Nature brought us this little gem. I must say that I can’t remember seeing anything quite like it. For a good portion of the day I couldn’t even see across the street, let alone to the hotel one block away from me. White out.
I so don’t want to think about the trip to work tomorrow morning!

Yes, it’s another storm. It started just after lunch and it won’t stop. I’m thinking at least another 20 cm before morning. Jeepers.

That’s a lot of snow!It’s been snowing since last night. I haven’t been in a snowstorm of this calibre since I was little. It would be exciting, if I didn’t constantly look out the window and wonder wtf I was thinking moving here?

Newsflash! LJ has been sold!
The rumours have been swirling since the summer and the start of strikethrough. Now, mere days after LJ rolled out it’s new “Adult Content Flag” [dis]functionality, they have announced in LJ News that Six Apart Has Sold LJ.
