I spent a few days in Guelph where I ate some really good (raw) eats at WOW –Wild Organic Way Café (22 Carden St.; Guelph, ON). Their food was some of the best Raw Food I’ve tried next to Roxanne’s in San Rafael (before it closed, obviously). OMG, the chocolate cake. You have not had chocolate cake until you’ve eaten WOW’s cake. My eating companion had the Lemon poppyseed cake and it was WOW, too! (Really, they named the place well ). My main was a yummy mediterranean pizza. The service was really friendly & they are happy to educate those who haven’t tried Raw Food.
One of my favourite people is in India right now & here’s a list of products she must try (or more to the point, buy a whole heap of and bring them to me…)
*Medimix Ayurvedic Soap. You do not know soap until you’ve tried this. And in India, it’s seriously cheap!
*Products from Biotique namely: Pistachio Face Pack, Bio Scrub Papaya, & Bio Basil (Basil & Red Sandalwood Body Talc).
*And I know it’s more mass market and chemically, but I’ve always loved the Lakmé Deep Pore Cleansing Milk, for getting the pollution out.
So this is a shout out to my friend who’s in India… I can live without the last two bullets (just barely), but the soap! Must * Have * Soap * PLEASE
October 15th is Blog Action Day The day all bloggers are supposed to blog about the environment. Here’s all the info on it. I’m not sure I’ll have time to blog tomorrow about anything at all… but I’ll try to find something to say!
I have done my democratic duty (made insanely simple by the fact that the polling station is in the lobby of my building), but the question here is, have you?
Via AllergicGirl, I found and listened to this podcast where a group of female bloggers discuss the links between environmental toxins and breast cancer (though I know some of these cover all forms of cancer).
Key Messages:
*Soy, not the miracle food.
*Plastics, not the miracle substance.
*Pesticides & other chemicals sprayed on food, not the miracle farming aid.
*Birth control pill & HRT, not such a miracle drug.
*Unnecessary radiation exposure, not a good idea.
*Aspartame (& other chemical non-foods we eat): definitely not all they are cut out to be!
Really, nothing new to me, but still really interesting to listen to because they do discuss some of the more recent research on some of this stuff.
P.S. Allergicgirl brings up this anonmaly that she & other friends in their 30s all seem to be having problems with cysts (breast and girlie bits), fibroids and other benign lumps, but their mothers didn’t seem to complain about the same problems. That was an eye opening comment. I do not have a family history of these things, but I do have them… a lot. I know that my work — placing me within spitting distance of nuclear test sites and depleted uranium bombs is a major risk factor for me, but to hear that this is happening to women my age who grew up in the West (like me) and do not have the bomb exposure! Wow. I feel like I’m in good company.
The exciting thing about this campaign is that it includes discussion of alternative forms of education, including ICTs, for these kids. We’ll just have to wait and see if donors commit.
A total sweetheart on the outside, you love to fool people with your innocent image.
On the inside you’re a little darker, richer, and more complex.
You’re a hedonist who demands more than one pleasure at a time.
Decadent and daring, you test the limits of human indulgence.
