There is but one song by this artist even worth listening to, and this is it. (And the video (esp. the clothes) ROCKS, too). I know, she’s a pop princess, but have you ever really paid attention to this one song? It’s a bit hard, a lot empowering, and it screams of individuality and indpendence… all things I hold dear. So I’ve chosen Fighter as today’s song dedicated to the diss…
Cause if it wasn’t for all of your torture
I wouldn’t know how to be this way now, and never back down
So I wanna say thank you
‘Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
Makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
It makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter Full Lyrics Click Here
In my head this is truly how the original version of this song felt & sounded. And the video is as raunchy as the song should be and really reminds me of high school in the same way as the movie Heathers spoke to me about high school. Those of you who’ve known me a long time shouldn’t be too surprised by this little revelation. I wasn’t a mindless punk/goth, though I had a b/f who had a mohawk; I was just made to feel like a social outcast by the other kids. Anyway, Marilyn Manson’s hardhitting version of Tainted Love is also today’s song dedicated to my diss.
Don’t touch me please. I can’t stand the way you tease. I love you though you hurt me so. And now I’m going to pack my things and go!
Funny, because I’m presently trying to take out my British spellings in favour of that hybrid — Canadian spelling, while battling about grammatical rules with someone trained in American English. Oh me Oh my…

On the weekend the only NYT article I read was the brilliant article about the struggles of an all refugee boys’ soccer team in the US state of Georgia. Well today my LJ friend ansi_soit_je informed me that there’s going to be a movie!, which will benefit the team and the boys. I was hoping something like this would come out of the article, I just didn’t realise it would be so big.
I was esp thinking about this because of yesterday’s post/conversation with Making Other Plans about The Kite Runner. Unlike the Fugees, however, I’ve never heard that the Kite Runner’s profits have been used to benefit war-affected Afghan kids either in the US or abroad. I could be wrong about that, but I just think that if one is going to benefit to the tune of millions and billions, one should do something concrete for the object of your writing.
The people running this campaign asked people to blog about “why” they are pro-choice. I don’t feel compelled to answer the question myself. Just know that I am.
Jason has an interesting post up today re: a group of parents suing myspace for failing to protect/help them protect kids from predators online. My comments are also there for all to see, if you’re interested in them. I don’t have anything more to ad here. But it was a really good post which made me think & I wanted to put it up here.
