For You
I am really thinking hard these days about life ‘n stuff. We saw Coco avant Chanel on Saturday night and I really have to say that I can see myself in her — a bit of a maverick. It was a really well done film and a great love story, too. See it. It also gave me pause to think about independent women and how they can either let themselves become dependent on men, or be forced to do so out of certain necessities in life. Coco learned to use men’s affections for her own gain in the end, but she truly did love them… in spite of herself.
So anyway, this is for you.
You Learn
… wait until the dust settles.
How Far is …
I haven’t been able to get this out of my head all weekend. It makes my toes tap.
Random use of candles, empty bottles and cloth
A friend of mine thinks this literal translation of the video, “Total Eclipse of the Heart” is a metaphor for the 4 years we spent in undergrad. Well, if you went to undergrad with me, you’ll probably laugh until you pee yourself. If not… I dunno what you’ll think.
Look at me I’m lifting my arms.
Le printemps et le tango
Spring always makes me want to dance tango outdoors. I’ve lost touch with the community since my first summer in Ottawa. But as the weather has been soooo beautiful lately, I really really want to get back to it.
Coming Soon to a Jazz Fest Near Me.
Salif Keita, to be precise. I may not have much experience of the African continent, but back when I was a student at SOAS, some mates & I would sometimes go to this music hall/bar place which mostly had live African bands. It was amazing and that’s where I got a taste for African music. Well, recently one of my colleagues lent me a few CDs. My fav. is Salif Keita. So I am totally excited by the prospect that he will be here in Ottawa soon. Whohoo. Ottawa, It’s not all bad.
Summer Awakes the Passion
Now that spring summer seems to be here, I feel the urge to move, to get up, to go out, to express myself. I want to ride a bike, read by the canal, travel to exotic locales, hike, swim in lakes, and dance the Tango. A friend just sent me news of Tango outside of Ottawa: festivals in Montréal and Toronto, Otros Aires concert in Toronto (:-() … le sigh. And then I remembered that summer in Ottawa means Sunday tango on Parliament Hill… so I search the web… and it isn’t starting until the end of May.
And, worse, I can’t go to TO next weekend on such short notice for Otros Aires. Why can’t they come to Ottawa?!?!
