Heat in a click. Not your grandmother’s hot shot (for anyone who remembers them!).
And perfect for those of us living in cold places. (yay!)

Transport
It’s official. My new favourite way to get to work is to bike. Takes me 5-10 minutes, I get some exercise, environmentally friendly and I don’t have to wait in line.
Perfect.

Change (Of Scandinavia)
So, I stopped by the ‘vog shop on Queen Street yesterday, just ’cause I was in TO and had to check it out. I picked up a couple new heels for my Angels, phew because they’ve discontinued the only pair my AAA feet can wear,… which I’ll get put on them by a shoemaker here on the end of the earth where nothing is available, but everything can be fixed.
The Cherry-coloured Oolongs are on sale, too, but the TO store didn’t have my size. If you buy them by mail-order you can return them and get credit but only with the specific store which sent them to you. Sigh. Montréal had 3 pairs of 7 1/2 Cherry Oolongs yesterday, but really the 8 that I tried on in TO was really very big. Perhaps I’m a 7?

So, I wasn’t in the ‘vog shop for longer than say 15 minutes and I had 45 minutes left on the meter, so I walked over to Pages for a bit. Stopped myself from buying books because I currently have two on the go and wondered outside.
Looking across the street I saw a store called Change. (aka Change of Scandinavia as it turned out) They were selling bras ‘n things for women. This is actually a major preoccupation of mine because I’m a special size and unless I want to spend $120 on a single bra, I usually buy mine in the US. Seriously. I don’t understand for the life of me why The Bay, Sears, et. al. don’t carry bras in a more diverse range of sizes. It’s not just the super-rich who need a good fitting bra! Indeed, in the US, I buy them in everyday department stores, so why can’t ours do the same? I digress…
So, I wondered into change and boldly said to the woman behind the counter, “Do you carry odd sizes?” She said, “Sure we do. We have them all A through J” Pretty soon, she was measuring me out and giving me a couple to try on. After a few I asked how much they were and was ecstatic to find out that they were cost-friendly. Not cheap cheap, but good quality, well fitting, and between $45-$60 each. Not bad at all compared to $120.
By now, I was running out of time on the meter… but they had a buy 2 get the third free deal, so I persisted. Settled on two. Got a third for free.
Yay.
Of course, they don’t have a store in Ottawa, either.
I mean, why would they? No one else does!

Where Hotpants meet Hijabs.
There is a great article on one of my favourite cities in the world in the Saturday Globe & Mail. Interesting to see how much things have changed in the decade + since I lived there. In my day in KL, my favourite local designers were Edmund Ser , whose 1996 Designed suit I still manage to get away with wearing and Peter Hoe’s silver rings, batik pants, and his Beyond collection, too.
Check it out!

Celebrating in Style
A friend of mine knows how to celebrate her 30th in style, let me tell you. I spent the day with her and other [female] friends at The Yoga Garden. We started out with a yoga class, ate lunch, and then just hung around drinking tea and catching up.
I’ve been really stressed out lately, but now I feel so centred, calm and alive.
I haven’t done Yoga since I was in TO working on the PhD and then it was at home in the basement with a tape on the telly. I think the thing is to do yoga in the forest with a view of a lake and the fall leaves all around.
In the haste to leave this morning, I forgot to take my camera (!) A real shame since the leaves are in full swing here. It was beeeeautiful.

Melting Guns
My Friend John Ricker, who melts guns and turns them into either useful objects (Park benches) or art out in San Francisco, has been highlighted in an article and a video in SF Gate today. (you can also check him out here at his website)

Whenever I see John, which is rare tbh, we discuss conflict, war, and education. John’s perspective and his work always serves to remind me that there might be another way to “teach peace”, which is by asking that simple question you’ll hear at the end of the video: “Who is it OK to kill with that gun in your hand?”
He’s taking the show on the road soon, so if it’s coming your way, check it out.

Fluevogs do Finance
British Columbia’s Finance Minister delivered her budget in a pair of green Fluevogs (from the tea pot collection, nonetheless!)

Vya
There was the usual family moratorium on gifts this year, but it didn’t stop some people from buying us little gifts. G got me some Vya. It’s not like any vermouth I’ve ever had! And yes, I am very retro. I drink vermouth.
Just another thing I can’t get at a store in Ottawa.
